Of the purple-ness of slippers

So this Christmas, I felt crafty….

After going shopping both with my partner and with a friend (separately), I established that slippers were something of a certain practical appeal. The desirability increased with materials and warmth, and the most trendy ones had lambskin in them. So for some unfathomable reason I decided to make The Man some slippers.

I would detail the process here, but the basics are that a) he had some flip flops at my place and I knew they were a bit small for him, so I used them as a starting point for my pattern.

I then found some nice comfy jersey fabric for the inside, some jeans for the sturdy base, and some highly decorative purple wool mix for the top to add colour, warmth, and a design element.

I did hunt around amazon and ebay for lambskin or lambswool insoles, but none were to be had that would be large enough to turn into the-base-of-slippers.

I also had some lovely purple leather, which I used to trim the slipper edges, as you can see in the photo below. Simple stuff 🙂

Not the most perfect gift, but as a first experiment, it looks decent, if scruffy, and is functional. And it beats socks.
